Judith writes, “Art is about experimentation, and with felt and silk you quickly learn not to hold an expectation for a piece, rather to hold an open space of anticipation! I recently began to experiment by starting with raw, un-dyed fibers, hand painting the piece after the felting stage was complete. After beginning with a small scarf, I was so delighted that I jumped into ‘the deep end’ and made a top, shown here. What you see is layers of silk gauze under and over merino wool, the piece embellished with hand-spun silk yarns, banana fiber, China silk and more gauze."

Rosettes embellish the side, and the fringe, formed from strips of silk, and the "corkscrews" from overspun yarn, add to the ruffles and brocade effect created by hand-spun silk.
